What It Is

Global Thermonuclear War 3 (GTNW3) is a cinematic, turn-based 2D strategy game in the tradition of Civilization, DEFCON, and Command & Conquer — but compressed into 20-minute matches where every decision drips with "wait, should I really be doing this?"

You pick one of five world powers. Everyone else is controlled by adaptive AI that hates you, needs you, or wants what you have. Over 12 to 25 turns, you'll wield 9 distinct actions — from economic statecraft to full nuclear annihilation — while managing an ever-shifting web of relations, resources, and radioactive consequences.

Your Arsenal

πŸ“’
Propaganda
Steal 10% of a rival's population, money, and influence. Momentum stacks — until you hit the 90% cap and it resets.
πŸ’Ό
Blackmail
Extort 12% of their treasury. Gain uranium enrichment as a "gift." Fail and they'll remember — forever.
🀝
Diplomacy
Build alliances. Immigrate their people. Unlock military aid. Sometimes the strongest weapon is a handshake.
✈️
Air Strike
Devastate 30% of their population. If they have AA defense, your bomber comes home in a body bag.
πŸͺ–
Deploy Troops
3-round occupation. Drains 8% of their resources per turn. The slowest, most brutal way to bleed an enemy dry.
☒️
Nuclear Strike
65% of their population, plus 3 turns of radiation. Earns you a Victory Star. Costs you 5% of your own.
πŸ›‘οΈ
AA Defense (3 Tiers)
Tier 1/2/3 protection against incoming bombers. Max tier turns 70% air strikes into a 35% coin flip.
πŸ›°οΈ
Install Radar
One-time $800M investment. Auto-intel on 2-3 enemies every turn. 15% destroy risk per successful strike against you.
πŸŽ–οΈ
Train Military
Boring but reliable. +10 military, +3 influence, +5% diplomacy with whoever you send the aid to.

Choose Your Superpower

Each faction starts with asymmetric stats, unique racial bonuses, and deeply broken diplomatic relationships.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ United States Commander Eagle, President
330M population. 50 nukes. Most military power on Earth. Allied with EU. At war with everyone else.
πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Russia Vladimir the Bold, President
145M population. 40 nukes. 15% enrichment head-start. Nobody trusts you. Good.
πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China Chairman Xi, President
1,400M population. $120M starting treasury. The economy is the weapon.
πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί European Union Chancellor Merkel, Chancellor
450M population. 85 influence — highest soft-power on the board. Diplomacy specialist.
πŸ‡°πŸ‡΅ North Korea Supreme Leader Kim
26M population — the underdog. But starts at 25% uranium enrichment. First to 100% wins.

What Makes It Different

🎬
Cinematic Moments
Bomber rides. Nuke launches. Leader reactions. Radiation clouds. Every major action gets its own animated set-piece.
πŸ“‘
Live Intelligence Feed
A scrolling news ticker reports enemy actions in real-time. Radar owners get auto-intel reports every turn.
🎭
Leader Emotion System
5 faces per leader: normal, happy, angry, scared, old. Portraits update based on what's happening to their country.
πŸ›οΈ
Landmark Degradation
Liberty crumbles. The Kremlin burns. Every country's iconic building visually decays as their population drops.
🧠
Adaptive AI with Underdog Mechanic
AI weights actions by their relationship to you. Losing countries get a 20-50% success boost — nobody is ever truly "out."
⭐
Victory Stars
Eliminate a country β†’ keep a star forever. A permanent reminder of every leader you've erased from history.

"I just wanted to invade Russia. Now I'm getting propaganda threats from China, my bombers got shot down over Europe, North Korea has 80% uranium, and my population is glowing. Why is this game so good." — Every player, around turn 8.
<section>

Anatomy of a Turn

You get 3 actions per turn. Same action type capped at 2 uses. The AI gets 3 actions too — and they come at you in order: Russia β†’ China β†’ EU β†’ North Korea. Then:

  1. Any irradiated country takes radiation damage (-8% population, -10% money)
  2. Active troop deployments drain their targets
  3. AI strategic purchases fire (25% chance AA upgrade, 15% chance radar)
  4. Everyone gets passive income scaled to population ($2M per 1M people)
  5. Uranium enrichment ticks up +7% for everyone still below 100%
  6. Elimination checks: is anyone below 500k population?
  7. Victory check: is only one country standing?

Turn 1: Only economic / political actions. Turn 2: Air strikes unlock. Turn 3: Deploy Troops unlocks. First nuke available around Turn 12 (North Korea is fastest).
